Pentecost 2013

Trust in the Holy Spirit.  Trust in the Holy Spirit, God’s sweet gift of eternity given so generously now.  Trust in the Spirit from whom all wisdom flows.  Trust in the Holy Spirit, the only pathway to truth.  Trust in the Spirit that brings us peace.  Trust in the Spirit that teaches us to love and to be loved.  Trust in the Holy Spirit that gives us courage in the midst of our fear and healing in the midst of our pain.  Trust in the Holy Spirit that comforts the distressed and supports the weary and the broken hearted.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who speaks the truth and stands up for us when we are persecuted.  Trust in the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ who loves all, blesses all and redeems all.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who shows us the face of God, who will not leave us orphaned.  Trust in the Holy Spirit which has revealed to mere mortals the wonderful mysteries of God.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who speaks from the better angels of our nature.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who binds us to God’s love even at the Spirit has bound the love of the Father and the Son.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who fills us with God.  Trust in the Holy Spirit that has been poured into our hearts.  Trust in the Holy Spirit, Christ’s promise of joy to each of us.  Trust in the Holy Spirit who does not let our hearts be troubled or afraid.

Believe in the Holy Spirit, the feminine face of God.  Believe in the Holy Spirit, the fount of all love. Believe in the Spirit of justice and peace.  Believe in Spirit that allows us to cry out “Abba Father.”  Believe in the Holy Spirit which overshadowed Mary and hovers over us.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who believes in you.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who bestows every good thing upon us.  Believe in the Holy Spirit, the maker of every friendship.  Believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life.  Believe in the Holy Spirit that dwells within us and makes us temples of God.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who gently attracts our minds to a quest that is true.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who sanctifies the church.  Believe in the Holy Spirit that is worshipped and glorified.  Believe in the Holy Spirit that glorifies us with the same glory the Father gave to the Son.  Believe in the Holy Spirit that eliminates needless distinctions for we are united in one Spirit. Believe in the Holy Spirit, the hope of the poor.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who breathed on the waters at the beginning of creation and who stood beside God as his artisan, playing before him.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who is light and the darkness shall not overcome it.  Believe in the Holy Spirit who came upon the apostles with a mighty wind and tongues of fire.  Believe the Holy Spirit of Pentecost is among us now.

Pray to the Holy Spirit.  Pray to the Holy Spirit that relates us to God and to one another.  Pray to the Holy Spirit who forgives our sins.  Pray to the Spirit that is the life of our Church.  Pray to the Holy Spirit that makes us one, holy, catholic and apostolic people of God.   Pray to the Spirit which directs our minds to peace, and peace alone.  Pray to the Holy Spirit without which prayer in impossible.  Pray to the Spirit as Jesus did.  Pray to the Holy Spirit alive in every sacrament.  Pray to the Spirit who comes upon gifts of bread and wine, who rejoices in the forgiveness of sins, that seals us in Confirmation.  Pray to the Holy Spirit who has chosen your spouse.  Pray to the Holy Spirit that enlightens every word of Scripture. Pray to the Spirit who brings glad tidings to the poor. Pray to the Holy Spirit, our consolation in times of trouble.  Pray to the Holy Spirit who sees the unity of the Church before we do.   Pray to the Holy Spirit for when words fail us at our most trying times the Spirit prays in inexpressible groaning.  Pray to the Holy Spirit by simply laying hands upon one another.  Pray to the Spirit for that is what we were created to do.  Pray to the Holy Spirit and be immersed in the fragrance of God’s peace.

Love the Holy Spirit.  Love the Spirit for it is gentle, kind, peaceful, true, wise, caring and loving.  Love the Holy Spirit for it is subtle, agile, certain, intelligent, mobile beyond all motion, the breath of God.  Love the Holy Spirit who proclaims liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind, who lets the oppressed go free.   Love the Spirit who has taken away our hearts of stone to give us hearts of flesh so that we will be God’s people and God will be our God.  Love the Spirit who has blessed us with the gifts of wisdom, faith, healing, and prophecy.  Love the Holy Spirit who produces charity, peace, joy, kindness, goodness, patience, endurance, gentleness, truthfulness, self- control and chastity.  Love the Spirit through whom is bestowed upon us understanding, right judgment, courage, reverence and awe.  Love the Holy Spirit who brings true life and animates us all.  Love the Holy Spirit for it is love.

This is the Holy Spirit.  The Sanctifier.  The Truth. Holy Wisdom. Fulfiller of God’s promise. Enlightener of the world.  Fire of love.  The giver of delights.  The Promise of the Father.  The Advocate.  The Peace of God.  The pure Gift of God.  The Giver of Eternal Joy.  The Paraclete.  The breath of God.  The Word of God.  This is the Holy Spirit.  This is our God.
